Whenever the owner of a dog calls it bad, it is normally a reflection of them. It’s irritating when walking down the sidewalk in your own neighborhood only to have a dog jump up on your clean clothes. When your front yard is the chosen venue for the dog next door to leave his many calling cards, this is also frustrating. Would you call them bad dogs? They are as bad as the children next door who are out of control. How can anything go right with these pets or kids when the adults responsible for them are not doing what they should?
Dogs need to be given limits for behavior inside the home, outside the home and while walking in public places. Sensible owners take the help of dog trainers who teach them proper handling methods without breaking their natural spirit. Your vet office or local pet store can put you in touch with trainers who hold classes with pets and their owners but another option is to look for online help.
Owners can learn how to manage their pets from this training. At times, trainers will admit it’s easier to train the dog than the owner! When you want the dog to be leash trained, have them practice in a small area away from other distractions. Owners and other residents get irritated when these animals bark even if it is a typical occurrence. If you shout or punish your pet for barking it does not serve any purpose – on the contrary it leaves the animal confused.
It is usually lack of food, attention or the need for water that makes a dog bark. The noise of a dog barking can alarm the owners of a burglar intrusion so attempting to stop him from doing this may work against you. Be careful not to laugh and playfully encourage a puppy to bark, and then get angry at him months later when he barks louder as an adult.
Trainers can help teach you how to reinforce behavior that you desire with both praise and treats. How do you make your puppy stop the undesired behavior? Well, simply learn to reward him when he does something which is ‘desired’ behavior. Remember that you can not coach a dog to adapt to certain behaviors which are not part of his genetic make-up. If you want certain particular behaviors, buy one which has that as part of the breeds make-up. When does a dog become good? Well, when you train them with patience, resolve and of course, a great deal of affection.
Till next time …
