Dog crates can be very beneficial when used correctly. I’ve seen several horror stories where breeders used dog crates as the poor dog’s only space. This deteriorates the dog’s leg muscles. It’s important to incorporate the use of dog pens for exercise to avoid this condition.
Of course most of us would never think of using dog crates as a permanent residence, but more for training purposes. When used correctly, most dogs truly enjoy their crate as it’s their own special place. We take our dogs out for exercise, run and play fetch with them, etc. so use of dog crates is no problem. I just wish those breeders that misuse dog crates would provide dog pens for their “breeders” to be able to run around in. There’s just no understanding some people.
