Have you ever owned a Siberian Husky or know someone that does? They are absolutely beautiful animals, but they are a handful as well. These dogs absolutely love to run. It’s like an innate characteristic they have. Guess that’s why they’re mushers.
We were at a gathering where this one couple was speaking of owning a husky and the difficulties they’ve been having. They will do whatever they can to escape dog crates and dog pens. Plus when they are left alone, they howl … at least theirs does. Some think that confining dogs to dog crates, kennels or dog pens is cruel, but evidently the Siberian Husky Club of America says these dogs need to be controlled for their own protection.
The couple is not giving up yet though. They said they had done more research and learned that the Siberian Husky, although still the escape artist from dog crates and dog pens when possible, does behave better when with other dogs. So they’ve decided to get another one. Probably not our cup of tea, but more power to them.
So if you’ve been thinking of this breed for a pet, be prepared for some challenges. If you’re up to it, then by all means go for it. They really are beautiful animals.
