There was an article in the newspaper over the weekend that called out a local kennel for unsanitary conditions. Metal dog crates were left out in the open, making them difficult to keep clean. Dog pens were not kept clean of feces. It was pretty disgusting.
Picking up dog poop from the dog pens seemed to me like it should be a daily task. As for dog crates, I would think they would be sanitized regularly to prevent the potential spread of disease. Illnesses like distemper and parvo could linger in dog crates and get passed to the next unfortunate boarder.
So take the time to check out any kennel you may be considering leaving your dog at while you’re away. Your dog will thank you for it!
