A friend of ours has a dachshund who is very protective. He’s fine with her family, but when anyone else comes to the door, she dog crates him. The little guy has a ferocious bark and you’d think this was a really big dog. She also has connecting dog pens in the backyard that he likes to run around in.
Once you’ve been inside for awhile, the dog crates door is opened and he comes out and sits right by her … being protective. She calls it little dog syndrome … the fact that he acts so overly tough. He must think he’s a big dog anyway. Dog crates don’t seem to bother him as long as he’s still in the same room with her. And, he actually enjoys scampering around in the dog pens out back. Of course, barking all the way.
Till next time …
