My Dog Won’t Go In His Crate

May 28th, 2008 · No Comments · dog crates

I hear this alot.  However, there are many things you can do to make dog crates more attractive to your dogs.  I know I wouldn’t want to lie down and lean up against wire bars, neither does your dog.  There are many soft and comfortable pads and bumpers made for dog crates to alleviate this.

Some dogs prefer not to be exposed on all sides.  Wire dog crates leave dogs exposed.  You could either get covers for the dog crates or put one side of it against a wall or piece of furniture.  This often gives your dog a sense of security.  Also, having dog crates located where the rest of the family is increases your dog’s sense of security.

Don’t leave your dogs in dog crates for long periods of time or you’ll create a negative association.  You might even want to remove the door after they’re trained.  Put a favorite toy or two, as well as treats inside the dog crates to entice your dogs to go in them on their own.  Put the dog crates where there’s family activity, make them comfortable and your dog should happily go in.

Till next time …
