Often I hear questions on why you should use dog crates in training your dog. If your dog is an inside dog, then using dog crates is the fastest way to housebreak a dog. Remember that dog crates are like their own den or shelter to your dog. I know when Sugar goes to visit the grandparents, she lies down under their sofa table. Since no dog crates are available, she seeks out her own type of shelter.
When your dogs are outside dogs, using dog pens can have the same effect. Just like dog crates, dog pens aren’t just for training but are really good for your dog’s lifetime. Both dog crates and dog pens can be used as an escape for your dog if there are lots of other pets or if inside, small children running around. This is especially true for older dogs. So don’t think it’s inhumane to use dog crates or dog pens; your dog will actually appreciate it.
