Not something Sugar and Pepper have had to deal with, but if you must, be sure to send along some familiar items. If you typically use dog beds, dog pillows, or dog blankets be sure to wash it a couple of weeks before you have to board so there’s still a familiar scent instead of being freshly washed. Sugar goes to the grandparents, fondly known as the resort, where she has her own large dog beds.
As for cats, being at home in their own cat beds is preferable. Pepper isn’t much for new places, especially noisy ones. A local family member or good neighbor comes and gives her attention and her medicine each day we’re away.
A petsitter is a great option for any pet when family members and neighbors aren’t available. Try to introduce the petsitter a couple of times before actually leaving so there’s a comfort level.
